Family workshop

This workshop took place on Sunday October 11th. The artist invited parents and children to make a long snake like creature using thin plastic painters drop sheets. This is a very simple workshop that involves box fans and the simple construction method of hand tying the plastic together to extend the length of the sculpture. A very enjoyable and fun workshop for children and adults alike.

Images of Shih Chieh’s CUBOZOA – L – 09

Taking images of Shih Chieh’s work is not easy with the constantly changing lights and movements of the works. Nevertheless these images capture some of the power of his Cubozoa installation.

The artist documents each of his installations using a stop frame method. This reveals the amount of work and amount of assistance needed to realise these projects. The finished product mirrors the movement of his installations and is a beautiful encapsulation of the delicacy of the work.

CUBOZOA – L-09: An interactive light installation by acclaimed New York based Taiwanese artist Shih Chieh Huang

• hauntingly beautiful
• confronting
• a major work about ecological imbalance
• repurposed and recycled materials

Shih Chieh Huang has created a poetic and fictional environment of blue blubber jellyfish in the Brisbane river which evolve and transform into varieties of creatures that inhabit the space and which are activated by the movement of people. It is a work that takes its cue from what happens to organisms when competition is removed by human depletion of fish and other environmental factors.
