In the spirit of the new, 101 ways to make new art is an adjunct program to the 2009 Arc Biennial. The program takes a more participatory approach to developing and discussing ideas than the traditional series of talk fests, even though on offer are forums directly related to exhibitions and one major forum titled CONTROL OF which aims to throw the cat amongst the pigeons.
The highlight of the 101 ways to make new art is the use of the web to gather and share ideas and a series of practical workshops for artists on methodologies to develop new work. Outcomes will include a new publication and workshops post the biennial.

Saturday half day forums and workshops – City program
5 September - New Art in the Gulf.
10 October - New Art from everyday materials and technology
7 November - Art in a future world
14 November – Relational aesthetics and Community art – what’s the difference?
The workshop program is a practical program where artists have the opportunity to work through a number of exercises that they may apply to their own practice and which hopefully will challenge them to open up new fronts in their work. Workshops will be conducted by selected artists exhibiting in the Biennial together with other invited tutors.
Forums 10am to 1pm. Workshops 2 – 5pm

27–28 November - Control of the new
A pivotal forum that thoroughly investigates the ‘NEW’ from an artist’s perspective through to broader socio-political perspectives. The forum asks some key questions, including: can artists really make new art?; who controls what new art is?; and has new art or indeed any art really made one jot of difference to changing things as they are?
