The Wilson HTM National Art Prize
Fostering the development of artistic talent in Australia, the $12 000
Wilson HTM National Art Prize is an acquisitive art award open to
emerging visual artists practicing in any media who reside in
Australia. Supported by Wilson HTM Investment Group, the award was
devised with the aim to acknowledge the difficulties faced by artists
in terms of national and international recognition for achievement; and
the difficulties faced in regards to long-term financial stability.
The 2009 awards include:
an acquisitive *$10, 000 primary prize (a $5000 cash payment and an investment portfolio to the value of $5000)
a $1,500 non-acquisitive Highly Commended runners-up prize, and
a $1,000 Wilson HTM Encouragement Award.
2009 Award
The winners of the 2009 Wilson HTM National Art Prize were announced at the opening of the Finalist Exhibition at Jan Murphy Gallery, Fortitude Valley on Tuesday 3 February 2009.
Brisbane Artist Brent Wilson was named winner of the primary prize for his multimedia work: (NWEI) Nostalgia will eat itself (2008).
Victorian artist Susan Jacobs was awarded the $ 1 500 Highly Commended Award for her sculptural work Semblance of a preceding form (2008).
South Australian artist Heidi Kenyon was awarded the $1000 Wilson HTM Encouragement Award for her avocado leaf sculptures - Untitled 1 and Untitled 2 (from the series Everything you can think of is true...) (2007-2008)
The other twelve finalists of the 2009 Award include:
